Say what you want about Rovio, but it can't be faulted for some shrewd business decisions.
Angry Birds, which originally started out as a modest iPhone game, can now seen in such bizarre forms as plush toys, TV advertisements, books and now an animated series.
Bightcove today announced that Rovio has selected the Brightcove Video Cloud online video platform to support the launch of its Angry Birds Toons animated series, in a deal that will mean the series is distributed to audiences across devices.
Rovio will release a new episode of Angry Birds Toons in its Angry Birds games, and to Smart TVs and other devices each Sunday at 8am GMT.
“Rovio has built a tremendous audience for its Angry Birds game,” said Brightcover Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Whatcott.
“We are thrilled to partner with Rovio as they expand on the success of the Angry Birds franchise and give fans more opportunities to engage and interact with their favorite characters on the device of their choosing.”
Who knows where and how Rovio will choose to expand Angry Birds to next, but surely nothing is sacred at this stage.
