Home Entertainment TAFE NSW students created 'first ever' augmented reality sculptures Vivid Sydney

There's a day and a half of Vivid Sydney to go, with NSW TAFE students at the cutting edge of augmented reality sculptures, and there's still time to see one tonight (14 June).

NSW TAFE students have drawn inspiration from some of Australia’s great contemporary and past sculptors and visual artists, to exhibit sculptures in augmented reality.

Now in its 10th year, this will be the first time this technology has been incorporated into Vivid Sydney

Located at King Cross in the iconic Fitzroy Garden, Augmented Garden will treat visitors to 14 installations that depict such diverse pieces such as an echidna, dancing figurines, a birdcage, flowers, a windmill, snakes and other exhibits that will amaze and delight.

Accessed exclusively through the official Vivid Sydney app, Augmented Garden will transport visitors into the artist’s imagination as they walk amongst vibrant sculptures in a new age media installation.

Students involved in creating Augmented Garden are studying at TAFE NSW in the second and third years of the Bachelor of 3D Art and Animation course.

A student who participated in project said: "To have such a large-scale audience before we’ve even completed our studies is daunting but very exciting.

"To see members of the public engaging and interacting with our art is so encouraging, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to be involved and see our ideas come to life”, said Sophie Toscan, TAFE NSW Bachelor of 3D Art and Animation student.
