Amazon Music Unlimited coming to ANZ on 1 Feb

Amazon has announced its Amazon Music Unlimited service will be available in Australia and New Zealand from 1 February, offering more than 45 million songs.

Amazon's announcement on Thursday also included news that Alexa and the Amazon Echo range of devices are coming to Australia. Amazon’s on-demand streaming service enables voice controls when paired with Amazon Alexa and Echo.

Amazon Music Unlimited will give music lovers in Australia and New Zealand access to more than 45 million songs and hundreds of playlists and personalised stations. The service features hits from Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Khalid, and Big Sean, as well as hundreds of hand-curated playlists and personalised stations highlighting local musicians including Vance Joy, Courtney Barnett, Gang of Youths, Sia and Morgan Evans.

From 1 February, new subscribers can sign up for a free 90-day trial of Amazon Music Unlimited for a limited time.

One can also use Amazon Music Unlimited with the range of Amazon Echo devices, the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Plus, also now on their way to Australian and New Zealand shores. Powered by Alexa, the Echo devices will allow you to ask Alexa to discover and listen to the music you want, streaming music around your home or business.

Some commands you might issue are:

  • Alexa, play top songs by Kylie Minogue
  • Alexa, play the hits by Keith Urban
  • Alexa, play the ‘Divas Down Under’ playlist
  • Alexa, play the ‘Top Australian Pop’ station
  • Alexa, play ‘Adore’ by Amy Shark
  • Alexa, play some 80s rock music

or even simply

  • Alexa, play music

“We’ve seen phenomenal feedback from customers who use Amazon Music Unlimited, and we’re thrilled to bring an entirely new world of music streaming possibilities to listeners in Australia and New Zealand,” stated Sean McMullan, head of International Expansion for Amazon Music. “We’re opening doors for our customers to have access to an incredible catalogue of music, and to be able to listen to some of their favourite artists while using the power of voice in exciting new ways.”

Amazon Music Unlimited will be available through three monthly plan options; the Echo Plan, offering full access to Amazon Music Unlimited at $4.99/month on a single Echo, Echo Dot or Echo Plus; the Individual Plan at $11.99/month; or the Family Plan, coming soon, which will allow up to six members of a household to share a subscription for $17.99/month.
