Home Entertainment AOC new 144Hz refresh FreeSync monitors

AOC, in line with the themes of ‘The Martian’ have released two new gaming monitors featuring cutting edge technology - the 24" AOC G2460PF and the 27" AOC G2770PF gaming displays.

No, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon), left for dead on Mars, does not while away the time playing games on AOC monitors but it partnered with global entertainment powerhouse Twentieth Century Fox for its first product placement in a major Hollywood film. And yes, co-branding with the movies theme is probably stretching things a little but may appeal to gamers.

The outstanding feature of these full HD, TN Film panel monitors, is the 1ms (grey to grey) response, and the 144HZ FreeSync support. Some early reports say it will sync at up to 160Hz.

The monitor stands are fully adjustable (tilt, 130mm height adjustment, left and right swivel and a 90-degree pivot). Ports include Dual-Link DVI, HDMI 1.4, DP 1.2a+, 4 USB ports (2.0/3.0 for 24”/27” model, respectively), 3.5mm headphone jack, and 2W stereo speakers.

AOC Flicker Free technology protects the eyes and reduces fatigue by using Direct Current (DC) dimming over the more common Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). In simpler terms, PWM turns the backlight on and off rapidly, while the rarer DC dimming method constantly powers the backlight to eliminate flicker.

AOC have a 3 year warranty and these will be available from November at A$419/519 respectively.

And the Martian Link is a mini-site with the movie trailer, stills, latest news and games. AOC also is offering a chance to win a trip for two to the Kennedy Space Centre.
