A statement from Stuart Mitchell, acting general manager said, Telstra is reducing its back-of-house asset management team in a bid to remove duplication.
“Telstra already has a number of functions that are performed by partners overseas,” the statement read.
"One of these partners already performs similar work to the roles we are talking about."
"Overall, the proposed changes would impact less than 4 per cent of our total workforce and 8 per cent of our total employees base in Hobart," said Mitchell.
Telstra will always maintain a Tasmanian workforce and in June the company met a commitment to offer 100 new roles to local people, Mitchell said.
"We will always have a need for a local staff presence in our stores and field staff to repair and maintain our infrastructure."
Telstra established an NBN centre of excellence in Hobart in November 2014 to help customers across Australia move to the NBN.
