The number of LivePerson customers in Australia - along with some potential customers' need or desire to keep their data onshore - has led the company to set up data centres in Sydney and Melbourne to serve the Asia Pacific region.
The primary data centre is at one of Equinix's Sydney data centres, LivePerson APAC regional director Steven Fitzjohn (pictured) told iTWire, with the secondary at an Equinix centre in Melbourne.
LivePerson's customer roster includes the big four banks, Medibank, Qantas and Telstra, he said. Some Australian customers, including some in the financial services sector, have been using the company's European-hosted service as there are "a lot of similarities" between UK and Australian legislation, whereas the US Patriot Act is regarded as an obstacle.
While he would not be drawn on the cost of the local facilities, "we've invested quite significantly" in the Australian data centres, Fitzjohn told iTWire, adding that the company saw it as a long-term investment.
Malcolm Turnbull's ascendancy to the Prime Ministership as a positive development for the company, he said, as it is likely to increase the digital transformation of government and its agencies.
