New hardware options for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

By

Along with several other changes, Oracle has announced some new hardware options for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

New compute instances based on AMD's "designed for the cloud" Epyc CPUs provide more cores, more I/O, and more memory bandwidth.

The new instances provide the best ever price per core, according to senior vice-president for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Clay Magouyrk.

Oracle has already certified EBS, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft and Siebel applications on Epyc.

Magouyrk said the new instances deliver 260% better price-performance, 33% more memory channels, and are 68% cheaper than AWS compute instances.

The company also announced a new HPC (high performance computing) 'shape' that he said is four times more scalable and 87% cheaper than the AWS equivalent.

The writer attended Oracle Open World as a guest of the company.
