Uni computer science course open to NSW HSC students

By

New South Wales high school students are again being given the opportunity to study a university-level computer science course, but the closing date for applications is looming.

Year 11 and 12 students in New South Wales are again being given the chance to take a University of New South Wales computer science course. For the purposes of school education it is regarded as an extra-curricular activity, but students who successfully complete the course will be given full credit if they subsequently enrol at UNSW.

"The objective is to excite and challenge high school students, and to prepare them for university-level study and change their perception of the field," said Brad Hall, development manager for the UNSW School of Computer Science and Engineering.

"We want students to know that university-level computing is very different to high school information processes and technology, or software design and development," he said.

Students in the program watch lectures at home on DVD or online, and attend weekly tutorials for the duration of the course.

Applications close on February 3.
