Seekhana seeks to deliver online game development courses


UK-based video game development online academy Seekhana is targeting the Australia and New Zealand market.

Seekhana is aimed at would-be professional and recreational game developers, including programmers, designers, artists and animators.

Structured courses including video tutorials and online assessments start at US$49, including the necessary digital assets and support from tutors and experienced game developers via Seekhana Social.

Seekhana Social is a social network intended to provide peer support on technical and other game-development issues. It is open to anyone, not just Seekhana students.

Courses can be completed at the student's own pace.

Seekhana's management team claims to have spent more than 20 years in the computer games business at companies such as Hasbro, Square Enix, Eidos and 505 Games.

"The games industry is constantly evolving, but one thing has not changed; you need talented people with the right skills to create great games," said managing director Roger Cheung.

"As the industry has expanded we have noticed a definite skills gap, and we wanted to create a platform that would enable anyone with an interest in making games to get advice and develop a more complete skillset."

Seekhana chose to launch in Australia due to its "booming games industry and the talented graduates emerging from institutions such as the University of Technology Sydney."

Seekhana launches on 29 April.
