New home for Cutting Edge in Melbourne's Docklands

By

Cutting Edge, which provides a variety of digital services to well-known TV and movie productions, has set up shop in Melbourne.

Cutting Edge's services - which include broadcast design, multimedia, web design, telecine, offline editing, online editing, visual effects, 2D and 3D animation, and sound design - have been used in high profile productions including MasterChef Australia, Australian Idol, Network TEN's AFL coverage, Superman Returns, and Baz Luhrmann's Australia.

"Cutting Edge has moved into the state-of-the-art Melbourne Central City Studios in the Docklands digital media precinct while it finds a permanent home for the development of a fully-fledged digital production and post-production facility in Melbourne," said Victoria's Information and Communication Technology Minister John Lenders.

The facility will employ 65 new staff and generate up to $A17 million per year for the Victorian economy, Lenders added.

Cutting Edge CFO Matthew Lawson said the decision to open the facility was driven by the growing number of film, TV and sport productions in Melbourne, the calibre of talent available in Victoria, and the existence of world-class infrastructure.

"There's serious talent in Melbourne in our sector and a strong culture of continually pushing the boundaries to succeed in global markets," he said.
