Cloud body OzHub expands

OzHub, the organisation representing Australia's cloud industry, has attracted two new members.

Founded almost a year ago by Macquarie Telecom, Fujitsu, InfoPlex and VMware, OzHub has the stated goal of building local consumer and business confidence in cloud computing.

The latest companies to join the organisation are Alcatel-Lucent Australia and F5.

"Cloud is very real but there are also real concerns to address, such as the ability for emerging services to meet the performance and trust expectations of users," said Alcatel-Lucent Australia president and managing director, Sean O’Halloran.

"We have a strong role to play and we’re thrilled to be supporting OzHub to put Australia forward as a leading cloud market."

Kurt Hansen, managing director for ANZ at F5 Networks, said "F5 shares a similar vision with OzHub; that ongoing education in terms of cloud security, performance, application availability and data sovereignty are critical to success when deploying cloud computing solutions."

"Australian businesses, and cloud providers alike, must build a strong infrastructure foundation that maximises the use of resources, while remaining agile enough to support both traditional and cloud computing architectures," he added.

OzHub chairman Matt Healy said the organisation "will continue to drive discussion about the policy and regulatory environment and industry standards needed to best position Australia to be a leading participant in cloud in the region."

Data encryption methods previously used only by military and intelligence services have become common practice in all data transfer networks across all platforms, in all industries where information is sensitive and vital (financial and government institutions, critical infrastructure, data centres, and service providers).
