Carrier billing spreads for BlackBerry App World

By

More than 40 carriers around the world - including one in Australia - allow their customers to charge BlackBerry App World purchases to their mobile accounts.

According RIM officials, the implementation of carrier billing for BlackBerry App World apps and content was followed by a 120% average increase in app purchases by customers, with around two-thirds of those purchases being billed through the carrier.

Carrier billing is now offered by 40 mobile operators around the world, including Telstra. Other well-known names include AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, Digicell in the Caribbean and Latin America, Indosat in Indonesia, and Vodafone in Spain, Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.

"We're delighted that many of our carrier partners around the world have recognised the value that integrated billing provides, by making it easy and convenient for customers to purchase BlackBerry apps," said Ronjon Nag, RIM vice president for App World and intelligent systems. "RIM remains committed to continued innovation in the way we align with our partners in order to best serve customers while providing a profitable platform for the whole mobile ecosystem."
