MUST-SEE: Marc Randolph, Netflix co-founder on stage Melbourne Town Hall 24 September Featured

By

It's your last chance to see Marc Randolph, the inspiring Netflix co-founder who shares the incredible start-up story behind the global juggernaut, and how you too can spark successful disruption against the odds.

I got to attend the Sydney version of this presentation, and have the first few minutes of Randolph's presentation on video as an appetite whetter for you to go and see the full event.

Put on by the fine and fantastic Freelancer.com and Startcon.com folk, let's just start with the Ticketmaster link where you can buy tickets to see Marc's must-see talk from 7pm at Melbourne Town Hall.

You can also register for StartCon and get a free ticket that way, please see my first video with StartCon chief executive, Cheryl Mack, for details on how a StartCon 2018 ticket is your ticket to Randolph's wisdom.

In his talk, Randolph shares "the unlikely story of how a handful of dreamers with no money and a bad idea, created the company that eventually brought down Blockbuster".

"Packed with dozens of stories that trace the dramatic ups and downs of those first exciting years, Marc weaves an inspiring story that shows the value of innovation, persistence and optimism".

StartCon put out an email after the event, noting: "Thank you for coming to The Uncut Story of Netflix! Thank you for coming to The Uncut Story of Netflix!  Last night WE SOLD OUT!

"A show full of inspiration, motivation and invaluable insights from the man who started a company that engulfed Blockbuster and buried dvds for good. With 2,000 people there to witness one of the greatest keynotes of the year, we just wanted to give you a HUGE thank you for coming!"

Here's my interview with the ever dynamic and always on-point Mack, followed by the first few minutes of Randolph's presentation, all I was allowed to capture with so very much more incredible detail in the rest of his talk, along with some fantastic questions not just from the crowd in attendance but also from Freelancer.com chief executive, founder and MC of the night, Matt Barrie.

After that I caught up with Mack again for her thoughts on Randolph's rousing presentation!

Here's the first video with Mack:

Here's the first few minutes of Randolph's presentation – sorry for the wobbly cam, I finally put my tripod up and it's nice and clear, and eventually an usher told me I wasn't allowed to film, but I was told by one of the organisers that I could capture a few minutes, so... here it is, barely 5% of Randolph's talk, there is so very much more incredible material in the full presentation.

Here's the second video with Mack, about 10-15 minutes after Randolph's incredible presentation ended, where we briefly discussed what we'd seen, heard and experienced!

You can also find more detail is here at the StartCon Netflix page, where we learn that Randolph is not only the Netflix co-founder, but also a veteran Silicon Valley entrepreneur, adviser, investor and motivational keynote speaker.

He was the founding chief executive of Netflix, the executive producer of its website, and as a member of their board of directors until his retirement in 2004.

Although best known for starting Netflix, Randolph's career as an entrepreneur spans more than four decades.

He’s been a founder of more than half a dozen other successful start-ups, a mentor to hundreds of early-stage entrepreneurs, and an investor in numerous successful (and an even larger number of unsuccessful) tech ventures.

Most recently, Randolph co-founded an analytics software company Looker Data Sciences, and currently serves as an adviser to numerous other startups, serving variously as a mentor, chief executive coach, and/or board member.
