Empired snares $20m contract with big miner Featured

By

Listed Australian IT services company Empired has secured a five-year, $20 million contract to provide application managed services to global mining giant Rio Tinto.

Under the contract Empired (ASX:EPD) will provide application support and project services for over 170 unique applications, across a number of technologies including Legacy Platforms, Oracle, Microsoft .Net, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft CRM.

The applications are largely technical systems used in the management of field operations spanning mining, processing, rail and port facilities.

The contract with Rio follows Empired’s recent announcements of a Managed Services contract with Toyota and a $12m contract with Ministry for Primary Industries in New Zealand.

Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said the company continues to have a strong pipeline of large strategic contracts being pursued and is confident of securing additional new contract wins to be announced in the near term.

“We are delighted to be trusted by an organisation as prestigious as Rio Tinto to manage applications that are critical to the efficient operation of one of the world’s largest mining operations.”

“This award speaks volumes about the quality of services currently being provided by Empired to Rio Tinto under the TST program and I would like to thank all our staff for their professionalism and dedication to Empired and our clients.

“I am also pleased to see our extended Microsoft capability through the acquisitions of OBS, eSavvy and Intergen leveraged to provide a seamless and cohesive solution to Rio Tinto. These acquisitions have been pivotal to our strategy and this win vindicates our strategy to leverage the broader capability to win large multi-year contracts.”
