Delphix Dynamic Data Platform provides a way of virtualising data, giving "fast secure access everywhere," senior vice-president of global field operations Tony Orlando told iTWire.
Data is "a key resource" for enterprises, and "the next race is to become a data company".
But "data is heavy" and therefore not easy to move around the organisation. DDDP provides a mechanism to assemble data from multiple sources and then securely and confidently move it around the organisation while controlling and monitoring access by users such as analysts, data scientists and developers.
Other benefits include being able to refresh a copy as required, share a copy with a colleague, return to the data as it was at any particular time (eg, to allow "apples to apples testing" after fixing a bug).
APJ vice-president of sales Richard Gerdis said local customers are often in the financial services, telco and healthcare sectors. The local operation has enjoyed 50% growth over the last six months, with a significant increase in customer numbers.
Data masking replaces elements such as credit card numbers with random — yet realistic — values, so the results are usable for development, testing and other purposes.
“Data breaches continue to hit the headlines as organisations struggle with information security, following recent regulatory developments in Australia, Southeast Asia and Europe. We can ease the tension that now exists between the need to move masses of data rapidly throughout multiple environments and keeping it totally secure,” said Gerdis.
“Our customers are turning to us because the Delphix Dynamic Data Platform automatically detects confidential information, masks data irreversibly and ensures all sensitive elements become invisible. Masking is better than encryption, which can be bypassed, and our users do not need programming expertise.”
DDDP provides seven algorithms to mask a range of information, along with pre-packaged masking sets for healthcare and financial information. The data masking feature can be customised to match specific security policies.
It also includes the ability to perform tokenisation so that data can be obfuscated before being sent for processing, and reconstituted on its return.
Data masking is not unique to DDDP. For example, it has been an optional feature of Oracle Database since version 11g.
Orlando said organisations that have adopted DevOps have make a big investment in the associated toolchains, but slow data flows are affecting the test process and hence limiting the release schedule – DDDP can remove that blockage.
