HP releases new EliteBook and ProBook for business

By

You won’t find these at any computer retailer – they are exclusively for use in enterprise.

I use an Elite Book – it is a very competent, solid, secure, and robust product that system administrators love – as it seldom causes problems and has enterprise securitry built in.

The EliteBook family has been split into two product lines – the new ProBook takes the majority of its features and cuts a little off the price.

EliteBook 800 – you know you have arrived – starts at AU$1999

MIL-STD 810G testing for toughness and reliability, a magnesium unibody chassis with aluminium accents and optional back-lit keyboard for late night work. Remember that HP’s philosophy is to allow maximum customisation so you can order LTE, Touch and a host of storage and battery options.

  • EliteBook 820 G1 12” 1366x768 screen is up to 35 percent thinner and 18 percent lighter than previous generations
  • EliteBook 840 G1 14”, 1600x900 screen is Ultrabook qualified with an optional touch display and battery options for up to 33 hours.
  • EliteBook 850 G1 15.6”, 1080p screen, can have up to 16GB ram and AMD Radeon HD8750M graphics.
  • All EliteBook 800 series have HP Sure Start in the event of a BIOS attack or corruption.

EliteBook Revolve 810 G1

The 11.6” 1366x768 touch screen, Revolve from AU$1899 is a twister – a single central hinge allows the screen to do a 360 and fold over creating a tablet. It is not a true tablet – more an Ultrabook but it is handy for client presentations and occasional tablet use. The nice thing is that it fits into the standard EliteBook docking system.

ElitePad 900 G1

The ElitePad did not get a Bay Trail upgrade but got a new security jacket. This is a ‘system’ tablet that can slip into various tablets for retail or factory use.

The new HP Security Jacket starts at AU$399 and allows device and network access through single- or multi-factor user authentication. Designed for government, healthcare and security-sensitive corporate environments, the TAA-compliant Security Smart Jacket includes a Smart Card Reader(17) that allows FIPS 140-2 encryption solutions and offers an optional fingerprint reader, both of which meet FIPS 201 requirements. It also has USB 3.0 and HDMI ports.

ProBook – thin and tough

Let’s just say that these are tougher versions of the consumer equivalent Ultrabooks with slightly less customisation than EliteBook.

  • ProBook has a 400 starts at AU$999 and 600 series starts at $1499 (replacing the 4000 and 6000 series). The 600 series will ship from late November.
  • ProBook 440 G1 13.3” 1366x768 screen
  • ProBook 450 G1 15.6” 1366x768 screen
  • ProBook 470 G1 17.3” 1600x900 screen
  • ProBook 640 G1 14” 1366x768 (option 1920x1080)
  • ProBook 645 G1 14” 1366x768 (option 1920x1080), AMD quad core APU
  • ProBook 650 G1 15.6” 1366x768 (option 1920x1080)
