Germany-based open source company SUSE Linux has expanded its relationship with Chinese provider Alibaba Cloud due to what it says is a bigger demand for cost-effective and flexible SAP workloads on a public cloud.

In a statement, SUSE said Alibaba Cloud had joined its cloud service provider program which meant that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications were both available in the Alibaba Cloud Marketplace globally.

It said additional SUSE products would be made available in the Alibaba Cloud Marketplace in the near future.

SUSE claimed that customers could deploy SAP-as-a-Service with a few clicks and fully deploy the services often in less than 30 minutes.

Alibaba Cloud and SUSE have also jointly developed and validated a best practice to automate SAP HANA System Replication failover, powered by SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability technology.

“Modern SAP systems running critical workloads need to meet the highest standards of availability for their SAP services running in customer data centres or on public cloud environments,” said Naji Almahmoud, SUSE vice-president of Global Alliances.

“We are excited about our partnership with Alibaba Cloud, as it offers customers agility, pay-as-you-go capabilities and system availability up to 99.999%.

"SUSE and partners such as Alibaba Cloud are enabling customers to manage complexity, reduce cost and deliver the business-critical services that are powering their own digital transformation.

"SUSE works with customers’ preferred partners and vendors in this way to support innovation as well as optimisation of their current infrastructure as they evolve their systems to meet business needs.”

Dajiang Han, head of Global Alliances, Alibaba Cloud Global, said: “We are delighted to expand our partnership with SUSE. As one of the leading global cloud service providers, Alibaba Cloud has extensive experience in the public cloud sector.

"Combining with our strong global infrastructure, we aim to continue to deliver more high-quality products and services to our customers worldwide with efficiency and flexibility.”
