Rackspace selected as first Google Cloud ANZ-managed services partner

Managed cloud provider Rackspace has become Google Cloud’s first managed services partner in Australia and New Zealand, offering Google Cloud platform customers in ANZ added cloud architecture support, onboarding, data migration expertise, as well as ongoing operational support to help ensure optimal cloud application performance.

The new managed services offering for Google Cloud Platform customers expands on Rackspace and Google Cloud’s global partnership launched last year, with the announcement made ahead of of the Google Cloud Summit that will be held in Sydney on Wednesday.

Rackspace says that through the new partnership, GCP customers in the region will soon have access to its Customer Reliability Engineering program and full Managed Security Services for GCP – with the broad services portfolio, combined with Google Cloud’s embedded security capabilities, delivering greater application reliability, resiliency, up time, as well as cloud security for enterprises.

Rackspace has also announced that, in addition, one of Australia’s leading vocational online education providers Open Colleges, which has operations across Australia and a presence in various international markets, will be the first Australian organisation to benefit from its ‘Fanatical Experience for Google Cloud Platform’.

Brett Rule, head of Product & Technology at Open Colleges’ Marketing and Technology Division, said: “With more competition than ever before in the online education space, student experience, choice and the swift delivery of new digital offerings and features have become as important as the actual courses.”

Under the deal, Rackspace’s Managed Services for GCP will support Open Colleges’ quick expansion across new geographies and markets, as well as empower the online education specialist to deliver new types of courses, including new short course formats.

Open Colleges says that deploying Google Cloud Platform with the support of Rackspace will be instrumental in delivering on its ambitious marketing goals, as well as engaging with potential students.

“It will give us the scale and capability to better handle enrolment seasonality peaks, develop new product offerings, accelerate our go to market, optimise the enrolment experience, and offer our teams and students peace of mind when it comes to data security thanks to the native security functionalities offered by the Google Cloud Platform. The full support model provided by Rackspace will help us build the foundation of a strong new infrastructure network, and ultimately future proof our foundations and growth,” Rule said.

Darryn McCoskery, general manager ANZ at Rackspace, said: “The strategic partnership with Google Cloud provides the Australian and New Zealand market with an incredible cloud technology platform, giving them more choice than ever before.”

“We’re focused on helping organisations de-risk their digital and cloud transformation journeys by being trusted advisors. We are taking the cloud transformation burden off their hands, using our deep cloud expertise – and now GCP’s unique capabilities - to help businesses focus on driving business growth and efficiencies.”

“The launch of GCP in ANZ coincides perfectly with the expansion of our Google offering globally to deliver our new managed security and Custom Reliability Engineering (CRE) services for GCP,” said Patrick Lee, global vice-president and general manager of Rackspace Managed Services for Google Cloud Platform.

“This is another major step towards jointly driving stronger innovation and expanding our reach to Google Cloud customers around the world.”
