Infor puts IoT data collection into multi-tenant cloud

By

Software vendor Infor now provides IoT capability in a multi-tenanted cloud system.

Infor IoT supports IoT sensor data ingestion at scale, synchronising the data with Infor EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) to blend IoT data and asset transactional data.

This is said to deliver better exception detection, workflows, reporting, data analytics and artificial intelligence.

Integration with AWS IoT enables customers to take advantage of AWS's scalability, stability, and security.

Infor provides IoT analytics via its Birst cloud-based platform for networked business intelligence. This allows the aggregation of data from hundreds of thousands of IoT devices in order to track, analyse, and improve operational efficiency, safety and compliance, sales and marketing effectiveness, and more, according to the company.

"Infor will deliver a step change in complex asset management through this IoT platform, and offer its customer base something that has been unattainable in the past," said Infor EAM technical product evangelist and product strategist Kevin Price at the company's annual conference in Hobart.

"With wide-reaching improvements in energy, efficiency, and performance reliability, organizations can truly understand the condition of a multitude of assets in real-time, through confident aggregation of different sources inside and outside a given solution deployment."

This approach makes it feasible to collect large amounts of data and use it to gain insight into the condition of an asset by combining Infor EAM, Infor IoT, Infor ION and Birst.

Infor demonstrated the use of Infor EAM and Infor IoT at its Inforum conference by tracking shuttle buses in real time (pictured above). Sensors collected data (including location, altitude, acceleration, illumination level, and ambient temperature) that was then stored in the Infor Data Lake and processed by Infor EAM.

The writer attended Inforum 2018 as a guest of the company.
