It may not have the same mindshare as Dropbox, but Box is a substantial player in the file synchronisation and sharing space with more than 14 million individuals and 93% of the Fortune 500 on its customer list.
The use of Equinix infrastructure has improved the performance of Box services by 60%, company officials stated.
The move started in Silicon Valley, and has now spread to Chicago, Ashburn (near Washington DC), Amsterdam, Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
"With Equinix, we know we'll get consistently high performance and reliability across our data centres," said Stefan Apitz, vice president of operations at Box.
"In addition, having our largest customers just a cross connect away helps us forge stronger business relationships," he added.
Chris Sharp, general manager, cloud and content for Equinix, said "The world's top carriers, networks and ISPs are accessible through Equinix IBX data centres throughout the globe.
"This allows Box to choose the locations and networks they require to achieve these superior performance results and deliver to their customers a better experience."
