AppGuru eases BYOA for IT pros

By

LogMeIn's AppGuru aims to simplify the management of personal and corporate-sponsored cloud applications.

Currently undergoing live testing, AppGuru provides identity as a service (IDaaS) giving IT departments a centralised way of giving new employees access to a set of cloud applications and to discontinue access when people leave the organisation.

It also provides a single point of control for setting and enforcing policies for business and personal cloud apps.

The initial preview release provides provisioning for join.me, Cubby, Google Apps and Microsoft Office 365, and basic controls for join.me and Cubby. Further services will be added over time.

As the product is fleshed out, LogMeIn intends to provide discovery of cloud applications being used on the network, analysis of usage data and evaluation of security risks, centralised app subscription management, custom security policies, simplified password management with strong authentication, and a customisable cloud application launchpad.

"The feedback we have received from our IT customers is consistent: Today's IT pro isn't looking to impede the use of employee-introduced technology, and they fully appreciate the benefits of the cloud," said LogMeIn CEO Michael Simon.

"The challenge many of them are facing is, as their role shifts into one of expert advisor and partner to the business, traditional approaches to user management, provisioning and security are often ill-suited for these new dynamics.

"AppGuru is designed to help these IT professionals embrace the new app centric world, and redefine their role as business partner in a cloud-enabled workplace."

Requests to participate in the preview program can be made here.

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration

The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.

Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.

Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.

The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.

With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?

PacketLight's next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
