Optus activates three towers in Queensland

Telecommunications company Optus has installed and switched three new towers in Mackay City West, Homebush, and Dolphin Heads, delivering enhanced mobile coverage and 5G capabilities in the Queensland region.

As part of a $3.9 million investment, the three towers are located in rural, city, and beachside locations, enhancing connection for locals and tourists who live, work, and visit Mackay, a popular destination associated with the Great Barrier Reef.

“The introduction of Optus 5G for the first time in these areas will enable customers in the region to take advantage of an enhanced Optus network, where they can explore the innovations that come with this latest technology through faster download speeds and an enhanced user experience,” Optus territory general manager for Northern Queensland Dave Morrissey said.

“Installing these three new towers will also allow for competition and choice in the region for both local business and residents, with Optus offering its best network yet.”

The investment to expand Optus' telecommunications infrastructure and mobile coverage is part of an ongoing project to improve Optus’ mobile network reach.

The three new towers will join Mackay’s Blacks Beach tower which was turned on in November 2021.
