Veeam announces enhanced support for Oracle

By

Veeam Explorer for Oracle will provide "a number of unique, industry-first features for Oracle," the company claims.

Availability specialist Veeam Software has announced that Veeam Explorer for Oracle will be released as part of the forthcoming Veeam Availability Suite v9.

Veeam already provides recovery for Oracle and other popular applications via its U-AIR wizard, but Veeam Explorer for Oracle provides much simpler and more powerful recovery, the company said.

Features include transaction-level recovery of Oracle databases, including agentless transaction log backup for point-in-time recovery, one-click restore of individual databases, support for databases running on Windows and Linux servers, and full compatibility with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM).

Veeam Explorer for Oracle joins existing Veeam Explorers for Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint and SQL server, which are being enhanced for the new version of the suite.

The improvements include the addition of eDiscovery features to Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange; the restoration of Group Policy Objects, integrated DNS records and configuration partition objects with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory; full-site and site collection restores with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint; and table-level restores with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL Server.

"When it comes to databases, no company is more ubiquitous than Oracle and its position as the number one database provider to enterprises across the globe serves to underline the critical nature of the operations it supports," said Veeam CEO Ratmir Timashev.

"Enterprises cannot afford downtime and while nothing is 100% reliable, these users demand that applications and data are back online within minutes; every moment of inactivity costs money!"

Veeam Explorer for Oracle is part of Veeam Backup Free Edition, and available to all Oracle administrators for free, but its advanced functionality is only available in the Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions.
