Stralia Web takes the mail path less travelled

By

NSW-based web design and development company Stralia Web didn't make one of the obvious choices when picking the software to run the messaging service it planned to offer its customers.

Stralia Web's customers were asking for a messaging service in addition to other online capabilities, but the company didn't pick Exchange, an open source product, or Kerio Connect.

"There was an increasing demand from our clients for a package that would also take care of their email needs," said managing director Ben Curran.

"We initially considered Microsoft Exchange, but it was a very frustrating system to look after."

The company eventually settled on the relatively unknown (at least in Australia, even though the company has five resellers around the country in addition to an office in Canberra) IceWarp Mail Server.

"We have started offering IceWarp to our clients as webmail and mailboxes," said Curran.

"There was no need to look for anti-spam and antivirus – everything was included."

He added "Somebody comes to us, they want a site, a domain, and e-mail."

"We now can do all that, with a variety of messaging options. We can offer POP3, IMAP, or help customers redirect service through their own mail sever."

Curran commended the product to other companies, saying "It's a fantastic system that has great support."
