Quest revises SharePoint tools

Quest has updated a pair of utilities for SharePoint administrators - one free, one paid.

Quest Recovery Manager for SharePoint is said to reduce SharePoint recovery time, gets content back to users quickly, and ensures data safety.

The latest version provides for granular and disaster-level restores from full virtual machine backups created with Quest vRanger backup software for ESX and ESXi. In such environments, Recovery Manager allows vRanger to protect the SharePoint farm's SQL and SharePoint servers, and also provides granular data recovery. No additional backups are necessary.

Recovery Manager for SharePoint can be downloaded here. It costs $1245.50.

Quest's Server Administrator for SharePoint 1.3 is a free utility that helps admins analyse the configurations, settings and customisations, and compare them to pre-defined or customised best practice rules. Company officials say this helps to mitigate risks and to keep staff and other resource requirements under control.

It's available here.
