Australian-born but now US-based Nitro has built a business around its lower-cost but highly functional PDF software.
Nitro Pro 9 costs $159.99 for a single user licence, compared with $424 for Adobe Acrobat XI Standard or $637 for Acrobat XI Pro.
Features of the new version include integration with Nitro Cloud (see below), a user interface that follows the Windows 8/Office 2013 style, document comparison, text editing by line or by paragraph, measurement tools, an Outlook plug-in, and the ability to combine content from multiple applications into a single PDF file.
A 14-day trial is available.
Nitro Cloud allows users to send documents for review, signing or markup without requiring the recipient to install any software. The relevant tools are made available via web browsers.
Nitro Cloud is free for up to five documents a month.
A monthly subscription of $5.99 gives one user unlimited document conversion, five signatures, and collaboration flows; $15.99 removes the numerical limitations.
Volume licensing of Nitro PDF and team editions of Nitro Cloud are also available.
