MuleSoft goes mobile with Anypoint Platform update

By

A new version of MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform includes mobility features.

MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform is designed to simplify interconnections by providing one platform for services oriented architecture, software as a service, and APIs.

A key feature of the latest release is support for enterprise mobility, vice president for products Ken Yagen told iTWire.

While the importance of mobile enterprise apps has increased and some organisations have adopted a 'mobile first' policy for internal and consumer-facing applications, there is a tendency to underestimate the need to access existing back-end resources and that part of such projects can account for as much as 70% of the effort.

Using Anypoint Platform for Mobile and the Anypoint APIs will make such connectivity a lot easier, he said.

Mobility is a key driver for all of MuleSoft's prospects, vice president for Asia Pacific Will Bosma told iTWire. For example, some insurance companies "know they're behind from a mobile perspective," but their apps will need to connect to back-office systems for functions such as providing a quote or delivering customer care.

"Mobile is becoming a big driver" for US insurance companies, observed Yagen, partly because they want to reach a younger market that is less likely to call an insurer.

The Anypoint Platform is equally relevant to web apps and native apps, he pointed out.

Another new feature is "instant connection to really any API," Yagen said. While Anypoint Platform includes around 120 prebuilt integrations (including new ones for Salesforce.com, ServiceNow and SAP), connections can be made automatically to REST or SOAP interfaces through MuleSoft's use of RAML and other technologies.

Additional Microsoft APIs are supported in the new release, including SharePoint, Dynamics and Azure Service Bus.

Also new are enhanced analytics including dashboards that can track key API metrics.
