CA Technologies CTO Otto Berkes (pictured) had five suggestions about software development for his keynote audience at CA World '15.
Integrate design, development and operations. A multidisciplinary approach is required, and it should be focussed on delivering value to the end user.
Get something up and running quickly, and then iterate from there. "I can guarantee you will be wrong about some things," he said, so it is important to get the application in front of users so you can find out what they are. "You have to iterate, iterate, iterate," he said.
Focus on services that leverage your data. Providing suitable APIs makes it easier for developers to make use of this data, and the new CA Live API Creator greatly simplifies the creation and maintenance of data APIs.
Secure everything. "Security has to be baked into every aspect," he said. Yet as CA's director of API management product marketing Bill Oakes told iTWire, "People do cool things, but they don't think about security."
