FireDAC connects multiple device types to enterprise databases

By

A variety of developer tools, frameworks and libraries exist to simplify the goal of supporting multiple types of device from a single codebase. One of the latest is Embarcadero FireDAC which supports a wide variety of databases and platforms.

FireDAC - offered as a standalone product and as part of Embarcadero's developer tools - provides applications for Windows, Mac and mobile devices with access to a variety of databases including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, SAP, DataSnap, Sybase SQL Anywhere, InterBase, Advantage Database, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL, Firebird, and Microsoft Access.

FireDAC can be used from Embarcadero’s Delphi, C++Builder, and RAD Studio development systems. Windows and Mac OS clients are currently supported, with iOS and Android support coming in 2013.

FireDAC is based on AnyDAC, which Embarcadero acquired last month along with its developer DASoft.

"Enterprises have already been challenged with supporting a wide variety of database platforms in their applications, but that challenge is now multiplied by the growing diversity of desktop and mobile client devices they must support," said Malcolm Groves, Embarcadero's Sydney-based senior director, Asia Pacific and Japan.

"FireDAC makes it easy for developers to integrate high performance Enterprise database access into their applications across a range of platforms and devices, all from single code base."

Purchasers and registered users of the Enterprise, Ultimate and Architect editions of Delphi XE3, C++Builder XE3 and RAD Studio XE3 have a limited time to download a free copy of FireDAC from cc.embarcadero.com/item/29318 http://cc.embarcadero.com/item/29318.

The FireDAC Client/Server Add-on Pack for the Professional editions of those systems is offered at the introductory price of $519 (normally $619) for a limited period.
