Microsoft tweaks Office 2016 Preview

By

Bug fixes and improvements for Microsoft's forthcoming Mac flagship, Office 2016 for Mac Preview.

The Office 2016 for Mac Preview has attracted plenty of interest, so it's not surprising Microsoft is offering an updated version ahead of the suite's commercial release.

The Office 2016 for Mac Preview - April 2015 Update includes bug fixes and feature improvements for Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word, including an across-the-board change to allow New Themes to be able to switch between Classic and Colorful appearances.

Changes in the individual programs are as follows:

Excel
New Analysis ToolPak
New Solver feature
Improved support for VoiceOver

Outlook
Networking improvements for Exchange accounts
New 'Propose New Time' feature: meeting attendees can propose a new time for a meeting, and meeting organisers can view and modify meeting proposals and send updates.

PowerPoint
Improved support for VoiceOver

Word
Scrolling performance improvements
New Macro recording feature
New search feature for online document templates
Proofing tools: New 'custom dictionary' and 'exclude dictionary' support
New user information settings in program preferences
Improved keyboard shortcuts: support for the most popular Windows Word keyboard shortcuts
Improved support for VoiceOver
Performance improvements

The Office 2016 for Mac Preview still requires Yosemite, so it's looking increasingly unlikely that the final version will work with older versions of the operating system. But since Apple decided against fixing the 'rootpipe' vulnerability for pre-10.10 versions that might not be a bad thing.

Those who have already installed Office 2016 for Mac Preview can update to the latest version by using Microsoft AutoUpdate. Alternatively, updaters can be downloaded for Excel, PowerPoint,
Outlook and Word.

The complete Office 2016 for Mac Preview installer is available here.
