According to company officials, the advantage of ManageEngine's approach to self-service password management is that it makes provision for password and related changes to occur within existing authorisation processes.
But instead of making the change directly, the software generates a ServiceDesk Plus request which is then processed and approved by a help desk technician or an IT admin according to workflow rules.
Overall, the idea is to allow users to do as much for themselves as is appropriate for their organisation, while retaining centralised oversight and control where it is needed.
"This integration will allow users and help desk staff to collaborate on IT issues to expedite resolution in a secure manner," said ManageEngine product manager Parthiban Paramasivam.
"IT admins can now take control of users' self-service actions and ensure that they are consistent and in compliance with their organisation's norms."
ADSelfService Plus is priced from $595 per year for 500 users. A free 30-day trial version is available.
