Video analytics has been used for some time to determine the number and flow of people in premises over time.
But restrictions on patron numbers to help minimise COVID-19 transmission as trade resumes may present a new challenge for some businesses.
Genetec's Occupancy Management Package includes analytics and reporting tools so organisations can use security video feeds to count the number of people on the premises and alert employees when occupancy limits are reached.

The occupancy level is clearly displayed and when the limit is reached, relevant employees can be alerted via mobile devices, email, or their Security Center dashboard.
The package, which works with KiwiVision People Counting video analytics or Quanergy's People Counter lidar sensors, also simplifies the production of audit reports to demonstrate compliance with physical distancing regulations.
"As public-facing organisations get ready to re-open, they are looking for ways to align security measures in adherence with physical distancing regulations to keep their staff and patrons safe," said Genetec retail and banking practice leader Rob Borsch.
"In order to enforce these strict occupancy rules, they will need to do more than just count the number of people entering their premises – they will need to know how many people are inside a store or restaurant at any given moment, continuously monitor this data, and be able take action when thresholds are reached."
