Full videos and more of CA Technologies API and Application Economy Summit: tech trends and issues summit here for you to watch and learn from.

CA Technologies recently held a summit diving deeply into APIs, the application economy and some of the most significant IT trends and issues for the APJ region, including highlighting the urgency for organisations to defend, evolve and grow their businesses into truly transformative digital businesses.

The event was hosted by Kenneth Arredondo, President and General Manager, CA Technologies Asia Pacific & Japan.

The summit also saw the launch of CA Technologies first Asia Pacific & Japan Application Economy Index, which ranked the readiness and potential of each market in the region (includes Australia) - the full video of that section and a write-up in iTWire on the freely downloadable report is here.

In Arredondo’s opening keynote, available to watch in full below (along with the rest of the conference,) he noted that ‘only the strongest and most innovative will survive in today’s increasingly digital world,’ an underlying message echoed by other speakers and industry experts at the regional conference.

From paying bills to monitoring health patterns to booking movie tickets, almost everything is now at our fingertips, with today’s ever-evolving apps enabling seamless transactions, becoming the main point of customer contact for many businesses.

This digital world is what CA refers to as the application economy, and it’s one most of us are now intimately familiar with as end-users - and which organisations should be as digitally-enabled businesses, too.

Highlighting the prevalence of the application economy worldwide especially across APJ, Arredondo outlined how organisations should focus on matching the pace of innovation with the pace of disruption, and capitalise on the opportunities to transform and grow during challenging times.

CA Technologies says the while economic uncertainties are widely expected to persist through 2016, ‘there are some bright spots in APJ which cannot be overlooked. Arredondo pointed out how the region will likely continue to be the global growth leader, having more than half the world’s population with strong youth demographics.’

Arredondo said: “Today’s digital world is shaped by a confluence of revolutionary technologies like cloud, mobility, big data and Internet of Things, which are making the future even more exciting. There is increasingly more awareness about the urgency to embrace digital transformation. Placing it firmly on the agenda of governments and business leaders, to help enable them transform and grow in a world adjusting to new realities,” said Arredondo.

Plenty more below, please read on!

CA explains further, stating that in the current complex business scenario, organisations need to be agile, innovative and operationally sound.

My own cheeky comment here is that agility isn’t just a catchphrase from Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull - it’s something that today’s businesses need to be to stay competitive - and ultimately to stay in business.

In any case, CA says these were among ‘the key attributes highlighted at the summit that will enable organisations to incubate ideas fast; being able to be the first to go to market with new products and services; and scale their operations easily when their businesses grow.’

Arredondo added: “Disruptors are not all about new companies and start-ups. Disruptions can happen with companies looking for new ways to increase productivity.

“The digital evolution is already happening, and history has taught us that it is critical for companies to catch and successfully ride the next innovation wave, or risk being left behind especially as the window of opportunity to surf this wave gets shorter. Industries that once enjoyed decades of market dominance have needed to adapt or die,” he added.

Now, we will see CA’s strategic approach in today’s Application Economy in the videos below, but what is the short version of this?

Arredondo underlined how CA has designed its portfolio of solutions to help customers transform to become truly digital businesses, stating: “Software has existed for decades. However, today, we look at software in a different way – it is not just a technology product.

“Business and IT leaders need to look at software as a basic organising principle as it allows scale, reduces friction, adds speed and enables repeatable, automated transactions. When software is harnessed at this level, it becomes a lever to innovate and grow, and more importantly, create completely new business models.

“We have helped organisations defend, evolve, and grow their businesses in today’s application economy by focusing on APIs, implementing DevOps, investing in security and becoming truly agile.”

Active Vs. Passive DWDM Solutions

An active approach to your growing optical transport network & connectivity needs.

Building dark fibre network infrastructure using WDM technology used to be considered a complex challenge that only carriers have the means to implement.

This has led many enterprises to build passive networks, which are inferior in quality and ultimately limit their future growth.

Why are passive solutions considered inferior? And what makes active solutions great?
