Lenovo and Actian to offer Big Data appliance

Actian is getting together with Lenovo to deliver an appliance suited to analysing large amounts of data.

The Vectorwise Data Mart Appliance combines Actian's Vectorwise database with Lenovo ThinkServer hardware.

The appliance is said to combine capacity and power, affordability, and energy efficiency. Pre-configuration means it can be put to work almost immediately, without complex and expensive system tuning.

A range of BI tools can be used with the Vectorwise Data Mart Appliance, including those from IBM Cognos, MicroStrategy, Pentaho, SAP BusinessObjects, Tableau and Yellowfin.

"The Vectorwise database engine, in conjunction with the Lenovo ThinkServer platform, offers an affordable suite of appliances that enable mid-market companies and enterprise departments to quickly access and analyse data," said Steve Shine, CEO and president of Actian.

"The convergence of highly-efficient platforms not only helps companies quickly uncover deep insights from their data, but the affordability of the Vectorwise Data Mart Appliance enables companies of all sizes to realise the value of business intelligence," added Tom Ribble, director of ThinkServer marketing and alliances at Lenovo.
