Seagate Backup Plus Portable reaches 5TB

By

In the poker world, there is a saying, “See you and raise you one.” Seagate has taken this literally, taking its external Backup Plus portable USB-3.0 drive from 2TB to 5TB.

Seagate has announced the general availability of its $319, 5TB Backup Plus Portable using its new BaraCuda drive. It is rated at 120 MB/s, works on Windows and Mac, uses a USB 3.0 interface for power and data, and is 114.5 x 76 x 20.35 mm.

Consumers are creating higher resolution content and higher volumes of it than ever before. From action cam enthusiasts to selfie lovers to devoted parents who capture every milestone moment on their 4K capable smartphones, the need for even more space to store photos, movies, music and content — and take it on the go — is growing.

While data storage demands are ever-increasing, so is the need to organise, centralise and back up that data. The drive comes with Seagate Dashboard to help backup files, photos and videos including those shared on Facebook, Flickr, and YouTube. And it avoids costly Internet data charges.
