Global identity provider Okta says it has completed the requirements of the Information Security Registered Assessors Program which ensures that Federal Government entities can access high-quality information and communications technology assessment services.

The company said in a statement on Wednesday that it had gained Comcare Australia as a customer.

In the past, certification for cloud implementations to be entitled to bid for government business was done by the Australian Signals Directorate but the agency withdrew from the role in March 2019.

The IRAP specifications are prepared by the Australian Cyber Security Centre and updated from time to time.

The framework is used to assess risk, establish standardised controls, and ensure accountability for purchasing decisions.

Comcare Australia solution architect Peter Hinchley said: “In our capacity as a national authority providing expert advice and services around sensitive workplace issues, Comcare is committed to ensuring the security of the information we hold.

"Okta’s investment in secure digital transformation for Australian federal agencies demonstrates that we can rely on our partnership with Okta to secure access to our systems and resources to the highest standards.”

"IRAP is the recognised standard for cloud services upholding the highest security controls in both government and private sector organisations across Australia," said Okta APAC general manager Graham Sowden.

"Completing the IRAP assessment highlights Okta’s commitment to upholding best practices for our customers, and our investment in supporting federal agencies in Australia.

“As government departments around the country transition to a new, dynamic way of working and bring more services online, ensuring secure access to organisational data and resources has become critical.

"Okta is committed to helping all levels of government securely adopt cloud services, and the IRAP assessment recognises that we can ensure safe and secure data flows and storage with our identity platform.”
