Novell begins sacking staff

By

Under its new owner, Attachmate, Novell has begun sacking staff, with reports saying that 700 to 800 are being given pink slips.

One report says that the jobs which are being shed are mostly from the HR, accounting, finance and legal departments; however, it appears that other parts of the company which have not been performing well are also being denuded.

Another report claims that an unknown number of US-based developers working on the Mono project, a bid to create an open source version of Microsoft's .NET development environment, have been shown the door.

Novell has moved its headquarters back to Provo, Utah, after the sale was completed last week.

Its SUSE business will be headquartered in Nuremberg, its original home before Novell bought the company in 2003.

Mono was begun in 2001 by Miguel de Icaza, a co-founder of the GNOME desktop project.
