WATCH THE VIDEO INTERVIEW EMBEDDED BELOW. Established in 2004, Catapult BI is a subsidiary of Dialog Information Technology, and is billed as "one of Australia’s leading consulting firms specialising in business analytics, business insight solutions and corporate performance management solutions".
The Dialog Group was established in 1979, and is described as "Australia’s leading privately owned IT services organisation, employing over 1,200 consultants nationally", not only having Catapult BI on its roster, but Access HQ and IceMedia, too, and has been presenting a series of six expert webinars to give clients the knowledge and insight they need to deliver technology excellent.
These presentations have been from the Heads of Dialog's Solution Groups or the CEOs of some of Dialog's companies, and they are providing leading ideas and methodologies that Dialog says it has implemented with some of its most innovative clients.
My video interview with Dr Gray is embedded immediately below, after which we look at what Data Governance is, plus more - please read on!
So, what is Data Governance?
Catapult BI describes Data Governance as being about "defining and continuously improving the lifecycle policies, processes, rules, and roles by which data is managed and consumed across the organisation.
"Data has become a critically important asset for organisations to leverage, to innovate and increase productivity.
"Data Governance is required to establish an understanding, manage access, change, and maintain the trust that establishes and sustains value Human and system-generated data enters the business as raw material and through governance becomes valued, trusted.
"Data Governance helps ensure that the best data is fit for purpose, by the right people, enabling the business to harvest its value to drive growth. Data Governance reduces the risks that arise from improper use of data, breaches of privacy regulations, or the inability to attest to data accuracy as required by regulations or industry standards".
The company lists the benefits as follows:
- Speeds time to trusted data value
- Increases business agility
- Reduces risk of noncompliance
- Decreases cost of data storage, processing, and management
- Allows business to manage the growing amount of data
The company also has a quote which states: “You can’t do analytics on data that you can’t find, and you can’t govern what you don’t know", with more information on Data Governance here.
So, to find out more on Data Governance and Dr Jonathan Gray, and its importance for organisations in regulated industries and the Public Sector, we decided to speak to him directly to find out more, with the video interview embedded above.
During the free 30 minute webinar on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 1pm AEDT, Dr Gray “will address some of the frameworks provided by DAMA for managing Data Governance, and the additional benefits of the approach Catapult BI takes for their clients”, and more.
A pertinent slide from the webinar is the Data Governance “Wheel” as you can see below, which Dr Gray talked about in my video interview and which he will explain in greater detail during the webinar.
