Pivotal and EMC sail on the Data Lake

EMC and its spin-off company Pivotal have announced a new version of their data analytics product which incorporates EMC’s storage hardware.

The product is called Data Lake Hadoop Bundle 2.0, which the companies say provides a “complete turn-key offering featuring compute, analytics and storage for customers building scale-out data lakes for predictive analytics.”

The term ‘data lake’ is being used in the analytics industry to describe massively scalable repositories for data generated by next-generation workloads.

Earlier this year, EMC and Pivotal announced the first incarnation of the Data Lake Hadoop Bundle, linking big data Hadoop based applications and predictive analytics with enterprise storage. The companies say that the new version, which includes EMC’s Data Computing Appliance (DCA), greatly simplifies deployment and scaling of Hadoop and advanced analytics.

“The Data Lake Hadoop Bundle 2.0 is designed to help organisations accelerate the value of Hadoop big data initiatives in the enterprise while keeping acquisition and management costs lower than solutions assembled with disparate parts,” said Pivotal president Scott Yara.

“There are so many opportunities in Big Data, provided companies have the tools to effectively use it. By offering compute, storage and analytics capabilities for data lakes in a single bundle, EMC and Pivotal are enabling customers to really capture the value of big data.”
