Box adds features, integrations

By

Cloud storage provider Box has announced new features, along with integrations with several products including Slack and Microsoft Teams.

The new Box Shield feature aims to improve the security of data stored in Box. It provides controls over shared links, external collaborator access, access by third party and custom applications, and uploading and downloading.

It incorporates an ML-based system for detecting anomalous activity, including changes in user behaviour and suspicious sessions (eg, if a user appears to be in two different locations within an impossibly short period of time).

Box Shield also supports whitelisting and blacklisting based on location and IP addresses.

It is scheduled for release on 29 October 2019.

The integration of Box and IBM's Watson Knowledge Catalog InstaScan tool provides a way to identify sensitive data.

There are also plans to integrate IBM X-Force threat intelligence and QRadar with Box Shield for advanced threat intelligence, investigation, and response.

Additional security support is coming in the form of Splunk integration. This will make it easier for Splunk users to attend to Box Shield alerts, provide deeper visibility into content access patterns, and streamline responses (including automated responses via Splunk Phantom).

Splunk-Box Shield integration is expected "in the near future."

The Box Relay workflow tool has been enhanced with the ability to add or update metadata values, to revert one step when a workflow is rejected, activity history export, manual workflow initiation, one-click operation on mobile devices, and more.

Box Relay is available immediately.

Adobe Acrobat integration will allow users to modify, organise, sign, and collaborate on PDFs directly within Box, via the Acrobat web viewer. All work done with Adobe tools will be saved in Box, preserving versions.

These integrations are scheduled for release during 2020.

Slack integration will provide information on shared files with content card sand the ability to set file permissions within Slack. It is scheduled for release by the end of October 2019

Microsoft Teams integration will allow the sharing of Box content to Channels and Chats, automate folder and permission mapping, and allow all Channel files to be previewed and edited in one place. A public beta release should be available by the end of 2019.
