VIDEO -’s Android app gets major update: free, instant screen sharing to mobile

The new app’s major update delivers ‘fast and easy screen sharing capabilities available to hundreds of millions of Android device owners.’

LogMeIn says its new Android ’’ app ‘gives Android users the ability to collaborate on the go – for free – by instantly sharing documents, apps, web pages, maps or virtually anything on their smartphone or tablet with colleagues, prospects, customers, partners or friends across the table or across the world.’

In addition, as it is part of the overall service, ‘attendees can join the screen sharing session from any PC, Mac, iOS, or Android device.’

Craig Daniel, VP of Product at said: “How we meet today – the way we share ideas and get stuff done – is increasingly a series of quick iterations and interactions. We wanted the experience to be able to empower people to work in that way.

“The new Android app opens up frictionless ways to share ideas on the fly, whether you simply want a quick way to get an extra set of eyes on something or host a full fledged mobile meeting.”

With the simple click of a button, (which is presumably achieved with the tap of your finger, rather than any clicking, as such), LogMeIn says ‘ Android users can instantly collaborate and share their entire device screen, apps, a document, web pages or a spreadsheet, without having to power up the laptop or return to the office. Using a small, movable, persistent button, called the “puck”, users can easily toggle back and forth between device screen sharing and the app.’

In addition to free, real-time screen sharing, we’re told ‘the updated app also offers Pro customers who want to host and present from their Android smartphone or tablet a wealth of other new features, such as:’

  • Starting a meeting using a unique personal link
  • Pass, request or reclaim presenter control
  • Record meetings
  • Lock/unlock meeting to allow others to join with or without requesting access
  • Start a conference call from an Android phone with one-tap that automatically dials the conference call number and access code

Available free of charge of Android devices running Android OS 5.0 or above - which means Lollipop or Marshmallow, it works with both the free version of and the ‘premium’ paid version, Pro.

Additionally, LogMeIn says ‘optional upgrades are available through in-app purchases. Android users with compatible devices can update the existing app or download the app for free on the Google Play or Amazon store.’
