App developer Elegant Media, the only Australian app development company with an ISO 9001 accreditation, has secured a deal to supply an app for the Australian Taxation Office to use in staff induction.

The ATO Training and Development app is due to be completed and implemented for use by the end of the month, the company's co-founder and chief executive, Anushka Bandara, told iTWire.

He said the app used augmented reality so that it was possible to incorporate additional information by scanning the information. Two versions are being built, for iOS and Android.

“The ATO App development project is a pilot initiative which will result in the delivery of an app that can be used by all new staff members to undertake their induction program with the ATO. The app will be versatile and able to be used on devices such as an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet,” Bandara added.

“The app will include a range of different modules and easy to follow messaging, prompts and informational videos. Hopefully, if all goes well, we will be able to expand the functionality and scope of the app to incorporate other activities as well.”

The app was developed only for the mobile operating systems as those were the main platforms used by people today, rather than desktop systems, Bandara said.

“Over the years we have developed and delivered many apps for a range of different applications and uses. The area of App development for training and development is experiencing huge growth.”

Bandara said Elegant Media had also developed an app for the Australian Communication and Media Authority.
