Nokia will roll out Android 10 'starting Q4 2019'

By

Starting in Q4 2019, Nokia smartphone fans can get their hands on the Android 10 software upgrade and start enjoying the very latest Android experiences.

As noted in a recent article, Nokia is serious about sustainability and the longevity of its smartphones, even down to re-introducing the removable battery in its newly released Nokia 2.2 smartphone.

That article also features a video interview with James Robinson, Country Manager ANZ, HMD Global on how Nokia is changing the smartphone paradigm with upgradable tech.

So, what does Nokia have to say about its Android 10 rollout plans? A comment is below, with a graphic at the end of this article showing which Nokia phones will be updated when.

From the Android 10 Nokia Update poster below, we can see that the Nokia 7.1, 8.1 and PureView models will be updated in Q4 2019.

After that will come the Nokia 6.1, 6.1 Plus and 7 Plus, shown as "in between Q4 2019 and Q1 2020", which presumably means around the beginning of 2020.

Then we see that during Q1, 2020, the Nokia 2.2, 3.1 Plus, 3.2 and 4.2 will get the update - as will the Nokia 1 Plus, 5,1 Plus and 8 Sirocco.

Finally, in Q2 2020, Nokia will update the 2.1, 3.1, 5.1 and the original 1.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global said: “With a proven track record in delivering software updates fast, Nokia smartphones were the first whole portfolio to benefit from a 2-letter upgrade from Android Nougat to Android Oreo and then Android Pie.

"We were the fastest manufacturer to upgrade from Android Oreo to Android Pie across the range. And with today’s roll out plan we look set to do it even faster for Android Pie to Android 10 upgrades.

"We are the only manufacturer 100% committed to having the latest Android across the entire portfolio.

"Thank you to everyone in our Beta programmes who help to build on our unique Android promise and ensure your Nokia phone experience just keeps getting better.”

HMD Global said its "unique Android promise ensures that Nokia smartphone owners benefit from 2 years of OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates."

So, if you own a Nokia Android smartphone that is within the two year upgrade window, and depending on the model, Android 10 is coming to you either soon, or over the next few months.
