Telstra offers mobile data pooling Featured

New mobile data packages from Telstra allow customers to pool the monthly allowance across multiple devices.

Telstra's new Every Day Connect Data Share Packages allow one data quota to be shared across as many as four devices.

The growing number of people using smartphones and tablets has led Telstra to introduce the new packages. The company's research showed that around 80% of Australians who use multiple devices would benefit from sharing one allowance across their devices.

That makes sense, as most of the people we know leave part of their mobile data allowance on the table each month, largely through fear of being slugged with excess data charges.

Telstra's research found that 58% of people do not use all their monthly allowance.

Pooling the allowance for a phone and tablet means that in many cases they can safely operate with a smaller monthly quota.

Telstra group managing director consumer, Karsten Wildberger said Telstra's Every Day Connect Data Share Packages will "allow customers to share their monthly mobile data allowance between their mobile and multiple data devices - including tablets and laptops - all under one package.

"This streamlined approach to data sharing is about making it simple for our customers to use all the mobile data they are paying for, manage it on one monthly bill and top up their usage easily if required."

Every Day Connect Data Share Packages are add-ons to Every Day Connect mobile plans.

Every Day Connect plans start at $60 per month for "$600 worth" of calls, SMS and MMS ($2.38 for a two-minute standard call) and 1GB of data, and go up to a $140 plan with unlimited calls, SMS and MMS, and 3GB of data.

An Every Day Connect Data Share Package adds $10 to the plan price each month, plus another $10 per month for each additional SIM.

Additional Shared Data Packs can be added if required, but as an introductory offer Telstra is throwing in a bonus 1GB of data per month for the first 12 months of an Every Day Connect Data Share Package purchased before the end of the year.

Telstra already offers shared packages for business users.
