For the last month or two, the rumour mill has been tipping September 12 as the day Apple will introduce the iPhone 5, or whatever the company decides to call it.
US journalists have now been invited to an Apple event in San Francisco on September 12.
The invitation's artwork incorporates the digit 5, which is being taken widely as confirmation that Apple's new handset will indeed be named the iPhone 5.
The phrasing "It's almost here" is open to multiple interpretations, the simplest being that the event is only a week away.

There have been on/off rumours that Apple would reveal a smaller version of the iPad (usually referred to as iPad mini) alongside the new phone, but most recent reports/rumours have tipped a separate event to introduce the new tablet.
There are also suggestions of a possible third event in the reasonably near future to announce Apple's much rumoured and much speculated upon TV product, currently thought to be a development of the existing Apple TV with access to pay TV programming and a cloud-based PVR service.
