GolfBuddy's latest GPS rangefinder - the GolfBuddy Platinum - sports several new features.

A GPS rangefinder tells golfers how far they are from the hole as well as keeping score.

The GolfBuddy Platinum features several improvements over previous models include a brighter, higher resolution and more responsive screen, a 15-hour lithium battery, and a more durable waterproof and shockproof case.

GolfBuddy devices include ongoing map updates: Jamie Stark, general manager of GolfBuddy Australia, said we continue to refuse to make golfers pay any additional fees or subscription charges to use the Platinum.

"All our worldwide maps, the largest database of any golf GPS brand in the world, are 100% free - not just for a year but next year and forever."

Those maps cover 35,000 courses around the world (more than 1000 in Australia), and the Platinum can store up to 40,000 course maps allowing for future expansion of course coverage.

The appropriate course and hole are automatically selected based on GPS positioning.

Features retained from earlier models include dynamic green rotation, Stableford scoring for up to 4 players, full game stats analysis, auto course and hole recognition, and shot distance measurement.

THe GolfBuddy Platinum costs $449.
