Photos of various supposed iPhone 5 components are in circulation, and there's a consistency that provides a growing degree of credence that they are the real thing.

Phone repair specialist previously provided photos of what was purportedly the dock connector and headphone jack assembly for the iPhone 5.

The company has now taken that part and tried to fit it into an iPhone 5 frame and back casing received from a supplier.

Lo and behold, the two parts "seemed to sit perfectly".

"All of the threading and screw holes lined up perfectly with the screw holes in then docking port/headphone jack assembly", the company reported.

The casing photo provides further support for rumours about the iPhone 5's design, including the use of a 4in screen.

The part of the picture that most lacks confirmation is how the physical screen dimensions will relate to pixels.

One theory is that Apple is moving to a 16:9 aspect ratio (eg, Today's iPhone ), adding 176 pixels to the height to give 640x1136 pixel display rather than the iPhone 4S's 640x960.

This idea has been circulating for some time, and would have the advantage of allowing existing apps to run without the need for modification.

New or updated apps could be written to take advantage of the extra pixels.

The expectation is still that Apple will announce the iPhone 5 (if that is what it is to be called) on September 12, with first sales or deliveries on September 21.
