The release by Palm of the Treo 750v 3G smartphone, running an enhanced version of Windows 5.0 and to be marketed in Europe by Vodafone, signals an attempt by a pretty powerful combination to eat away the dominance of Research in Motion's Blackberry on the Continent.
Compared to the Blackberry, the Treo has never
been considered the device of choice for business people on the go,
especially in Europe.
However, the new Treo 750v is jam-packed with features that are
designed to make life easy for business road warriors. Plus, with the
marketing might of Vodafone selling the product in Europe behind it,
the scales might just begin to tip in Palm's favour across the Atlantic.
Aside from consumer features, such as Windows Media Player 10 Mobile
for music and video, Bluetooth; a mini-SD expansion slot; and a 1.3
megapixel still and video camera, the Treo 750v is a business
traveller's dream.
Features such as dial by name, web searches, one-touch dialing, easy
call and voicemail management from the screen, easy composition of text
messages and emails add up to Palm throwing out a serious challenge to
RIM's stranglehold in Europe.
