When we last look at N-trig, the company had just launched its fourth-gen DuoSense device, with a single chip able to handle screen sizes up to 11.6-inches, and with more than one DuoSense chip required to handle screens of up to 17-inches.

Now, N-trig busts through the 11.6-inch barrier in yet another extremely stunning power-up of its capabilities, lowering the power and size requirements of its DuoSense chip and able to support screen sizes – with a single chip – from 5 to 15.6-inches.

A first in the industry, DuoSense supports devices with screen sizes from 5-15.6”, lowering power and size requirements and opening the door to the handheld market, with multiple DuoSense chips presumably still able to handle larger screen sizes if desired.

As N-trig notes in its press release, its DuoSense “pen and multi-touch user interface” has been “extended to include single-chip solutions”, and notes that the competition still requires “either two sensors or multiple chips to support pen and multi-touch”.

With N-trig “the first company to offer both on a single chip and a single sensor”, it extends is touching supremacy while “providing device manufacturers with a compact, low-power solution and paving the way for N-trig to enter the handheld market”, with this latest “DuoSense chipset optimized for a variety of screen sizes, ranging from 5” handhelds to 11” tablets, and offers an Analog-IC that allows for support of up to 15.6” portable PCs.”

It also means “easier integration and flexibility in thinner and slimmer computing designs”, while even offering “the ability to support a chip-on-flex configuration, in which the chip is directly mounted and electronically connected to a flexible circuit, eliminating the need for a controller”.

Dear reader: this means a true tablet revolution power-up EXTREME is coming, with today’s tablets but babes in the woods compared to what these new DuoSense chips will be paired with, and it heralds a glorious future for Windows, Android and even Apple tablets – should Apple ever decide to add a true stylus solution to its current digitized stylus-free solution.

Indeed, N-trig notes that: “Chipset engineering samples are already available for customers, and the DuoSense solution will be integrated in a number of Android and Windows/Windows 8-based tablets scheduled for release later this year” – so we surely can expect some stunning DuoSense enabled Windows 8 and Android tablets with the most sensitive and advanced touch capabilities yet.

Ronen Heldman, the VP of Marketing at N-trig spoke of the new DuoSense single-chip solution allowing OEMs to offer innovative and “industry-leading pen and multi-touch input while meeting market demand for lighter, thinner and smaller devices”, with Mr Heldman noting N-trig “especially looks forward to introducing our unmatched pen and multi-touch capabilities to the handheld market.”

DS-P4048 - Optimized for handheld solutions with screen sizes of 5”-6”
DS-P4080 - Optimized for mini-tablets with screen sizes of 6”-8”
DS-P4096 - Optimized for tablets with screen sizes of 9”-11”
DS-A4016 - An analog-IC that can be used in conjunction with the DS-P4096 to support Ultrabooks and mobile computing devices with screen sizes of up to 15.6”
DS-D4000 – A Digital-IC together with multiple DS-A4016, is optimized for meeting the increasing demand for narrow designs in the Ultrabook and mobile computing device markets
