The trouble with smartphones is that the better and more useful they are, the more you use them, and the more you use them, the faster the battery goes flat. Recharging during the day isn't always possible if your idea of being out and about doesn't include driving, so one answer is an external battery.

Android accessory specialist Droidax already has a case for the Samsung Galaxy S II that features an external battery, and it will soon offer one for the Galaxy S III.

Scheduled to ship at the end of July for $49.95 (with free shipping to Australia and the US), the Droidax S III Power Pack features a 2300mAh Li-ion battery that's said to be capable of extending the life of a single charge by up to 75%.

The Power Pack ensures that the phone's internal battery is not fully drained.

Other features include four LEDs to show the amount of charge remaining, and protection against short circuits, overcharging, and excessive current.

The Droidax S III Power Pack is available in white or rubber-coated blue to match the phone's colour choices.
